Focus Pull
A focus pull, also known as a rack focus, is a technique that can be performed on a camera. While filming, the camerman changes the focus of the camera. This is often to focus on something in the background when previously it had been focusing on something in the foreground. This performs this in one smooth shot, however. Our attempt at the focus pull wasn't completely successful. This is because, while it could be passed off as a focus pull, technically it isn't because the transition of focuses isn't smooth as the camera jolts when it occurs. In major films, racking focus is the primary job of the 1st assistant camera, or focus puller. However, it recent years it has been considered taboo to use the focus pull due to it being a permanent part of the footage and, thus, is difficult to edit in post-production.
